A Jester's Divinity

by Awespec

Jaxir Chance had lost everything that mattered. His parents were dead, their company had been stolen from him, and the hopeful kid he had once been was now a twenty-one-year-old shut-in who could barely remember the last time he saw the sun. Then a post-dated letter from his parents pointed him toward Divinity, the virtual reality MMORPG they had devoted their lives to creating. Jaxir entered looking for answers and awakened the memories of a murdered god instead. The God of Games had been betrayed, killed, and stripped of the Jester's Divinity. Now his memories are fusing with Jaxir's own, granting him combat instincts he never trained, knowledge of magic he never learned, and an understanding of Divinity's Vestigem Cards that lets him bend the game's rules in ways ordinary players can't. Unfortunately, the game notices. Before Jaxir even reaches Level 1, his connection to the Jester brands him with a Bad Alignment, locks him out of the tutorial village, and puts a bounty on his head. And yet, for the first time in years, Jaxir is starting to have fun. If he wants answers, he'll have to survive the players hunting him, master a power that was once stolen from a god, and turn a late start into an advantage no one sees coming.
