1. Data stored in your browser
While signed out, your library, saved reading positions, bookmarks, notes, highlights, and reader settings are stored in this browser and are not synced to an Atlas account. Clearing browser data removes that local copy. Normal site requests and the usage and performance reporting described below still reach Atlas.
2. Data stored with an account
If you sign in through an available provider, we receive your basic profile — a stable account identifier, your display name, email address, and avatar. We store that identity plus a copy of your reading state (library, progress, bookmarks, notes, highlights, reader preferences) so it syncs across your devices. We do not receive or store passwords; authentication happens entirely with the provider.
Information you choose to submit, such as comments, contact messages, bug reports, content reports, takedown requests, or a custom display name and avatar, is sent to Atlas to handle that submission. This is separate from your browser’s saved reading state.
Contact messages include your name, reply email, subject, and message. Atlas keeps a copy in its private team inbox and sends it through its email delivery provider, Resend, to the monitored support inbox. This also applies to copyright notices sent through the contact form. Reply addresses and message contents are not published.
3. Cookies and usage reporting
Atlas uses authentication cookies for sign-in, sessions, and related security checks. Usage reporting uses a random first-party browser cookie lasting up to 90 days. A protected identifier derived from that random value estimates unique and returning browsers; it is not derived from your account or IP address. A visit marker in session storage renews after 30 minutes of inactivity. Reporting includes page and novel identifiers, chapter opens, visible reading engagement and qualified chapter completions, device category, referrer hostname, coarse country when supplied by our trusted network edge, and performance measurements. Referrer paths and query strings are not collected for these reports. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control requests disable this collection. A developer can explicitly mark this browser as test traffic with a separate eight-hour secure cookie; ordinary signed-in reading is otherwise counted normally. Earlier aggregate reports used a different daily counting method and cannot be retrospectively separated into test traffic.
4. Advertising
Chapter pages may display advertising served by a third-party ad partner (such as Google AdSense). Ad partners may use their own cookies or identifiers under their own privacy policies; consult the partner’s policy and your browser’s controls for choices. Atlas does not sell your personal data.
5. Data deletion
You can download a reading-data backup or, while signed out, clear this browser’s reading data in Settings. Clearing device data does not delete an Atlas account or its server-side data. Account deletion is not a self-service action in Settings.
For account-data or deletion requests, use the private contact form. Public launch remains blocked until contact delivery is configured and tested. Requests require ownership verification; contacting Atlas does not itself delete account data.
6. Children
Atlas is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
