Werewolf
My Luna investiture was put off again.Every time, Theodore Grayson would pull me close and promise, "Even without the investiture, you'll always be my Luna."It finally happened in the fifth year after we had marked each other. But right there at the event, Marlene Smith, the same woman I'd once saved with my own hands, announced in front of everyone that she was carrying Theodore's pup.Theodore knelt outside in the snow for an entire day. He begged me to forgive him, his eyes red-rimmed."Eleanor, I was drugged then. I'll make her get rid of the pup right now, I swear. Please, don't leave me."Then, right in front of me, he dragged Marlene into the healing hall.Eight years of loving him made it impossible to just walk away, so I forgave him through my tears.Three years later, Theodore went missing during an attack by Rogues. I tore through the wilderness all night searching for him, only to find him shielding a very pregnant Marlene and a pup who could already run.The pup had never been gotten rid of at all.Theodore knelt in front of me with Marlene at his side and tried to explain."Marlene said she'd have the pup and put your name on it. I only wanted to protect your place as Luna."His eyes were full of pleading."Eleanor, the Elders have been pressuring you for not being able to carry a pup. Once we have this one, they'll never be able to use it against you again.""Marlene's only carrying it for us. Every pup will only ever call you mother. Don't be hard on her. I swear on my life, no one will ever threaten your place as Luna."I smiled thinly and rested my hand gently on my stomach, feeling the faint trace of a pup's presence inside me.I watched Theodore walk Marlene toward the car, shielding her the whole way. Then I sent a message to a number I hadn't contacted in a long time.[I helped you once. Now it's your turn.]
