This novel tells the story of Tri Võng, a man whose destiny is split between immeasurable merit and the depths of Asura hell. A high monk, proficient in Buddhist teachings and far from ordinary, approaches Tri Võng with a solemn warning and an offer of guidance: "Donor Tri, your situation is perilous. This humble monk vows to accompany you, to guide you to Buddhahood, to enter the gate of merit." Tri Võng, ever pragmatic, simply retorts, "Speak human." The monk, however, reveals a deeper, more personal connection, lamenting, "It's been seven hundred years; if this humble monk doesn't act now, I'll have a whole herd of cattle growing on my head." It turns out this extraordinary monk is Tri Võng's former lover, who sees him as too bewitching and dangerous to sentient beings. To prevent Tri Võng from causing further calamity, the monk advises him to embrace monastic life. If Tri Võng insists on creating chaos, the monk is prepared to bear that burden alone. Readers should be aware that the latter half of the story delves into complex theological and cosmic philosophical concepts, which may not appeal to everyone. The dominant character (gong) appears later, and while the romance is set in ancient times, the narrative extends beyond mere love, offering a profound and intricate journey. This is not a typical 'feel-good' story, so readers seeking lighthearted entertainment should proceed with caution.
