They say you shouldn’t see your bride or groom until the day you are to get married. But for Alexander Vance, that saying ended up being pushed into entirely new territory when not even a shadow of his supposed partner could be found, even on the very day of their registration. Apparently, not seeing the groom before the wedding was one thing. Not seeing the bastard at all was another. After waiting until the doors of the Marriage Bureau practically closed on him, with nothing but the wise words of a surprisingly sympathetic security guard to accompany him, Alex eventually came to the rather humiliating realization that there was no way his fiancé, Dominic Sebastian, had ever planned on showing up. Not when, all this time, the man had apparently been far too busy cozying up to the person supposedly behind his every smile. How romantic... At least for those two. Unfortunately, things only got better from there. Faced with taunts from crazed people who openly supported Dominic’s antics, along with the realization that the Sebastian Group’s heir genuinely believed Alex would eventually bend to his demands because he knew Alex depended on their marriage for both the interests of Vance Holdings and access to his trust, the recently jilted groom finally came to a decision. If Dominic thought all of that meant Alex would quietly swallow the humiliation, accept whatever scraps of dignity he was allowed to keep, and still marry him afterward, then clearly, the man had spent two years engaged to Alexander Vance without actually learning a damn thing about him. Because Alex would rather crawl through mud, burn every bridge connecting their families, and deal with whatever disaster came afterward than continue having Dominic Sebastian’s name attached to his. But maybe it wasn’t all that bad when hightailing it away from that scumbag of an ex meant eventually landing in the lap of a far lesser evil. Sure, the man was rather curt and may have had several others sweating in distress, but in Alex’s mind, how bad could it really be to take the hand of his depraved ex’s enemy?
