Living the Role

by NewComer714

For five years, all Ronan Mercer had earned in Hollywood was a nickname his fellow actors pinned on him: Forever Extra. It made him feel small. Ashamed. Embarrassed to even say his own dream out loud. Was this all his life would ever be? An extra on the screen, and a background in his own life too, always standing behind someone brighter? Maybe giving up was the only choice left. Day after day, all he could do was look up at the other actors, the ones with the success, the fame, the wealth he could only dream of. He didn't want to quit. But somewhere deep down, he was starting to think quitting was the smart thing to do. And his agency seemed to think so too. They were letting him go, but not before handing him a farewell gift: one last role, and nothing after it. Still, Ronan decided to give it one final chance. If it ended here, at least he could say he tried. What he didn't know was that this time, his life was about to take a turn. He stepped into the casting room, and everything changed. The walls fell away, and the room reshaped itself into the very world of the script, vivid and alive, but for him alone. Right before his eyes, the miracle unfolded: [Immersion System]. The judges couldn't see the world that had bloomed around him, nor feel a trace of what he felt standing inside it. But through his acting, they saw all of it anyway. He was no longer reciting a character. He was living the role, so real that the director almost forgot he was watching a man read for a part. That wall, once far too tall to ever climb, felt like something he could simply walk past now. And Ronan Mercer was about to become an actor unlike any Hollywood had ever seen.
